In a major development in the Delhi Red Fort blast investigation, authorities have detained Mohammad Faheem, a relative of Dr Umar Un Nabi, the prime suspect in the November 10 explosion that killed 12 people and injured several others.
Faheem, who is Nabi’s brother-in-law and a resident of Khandawali village in Faridabad, was picked up after investigators traced the red Ford EcoSport (DL10CK0458) — owned by Dr Nabi — to his possession.
“Faheem was found to be in possession of the red Ford EcoSport registered under Dr Nabi’s name. The vehicle was located outside a house in Khandawali village and later seized. He has been detained for questioning regarding when and how the car came into his possession,” an investigator confirmed.
Key Developments
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Jammu and Kashmir Police, who are jointly tracking individuals linked to the terror module, located Faheem through surveillance footage and local intelligence inputs.
Investigators are now working to determine whether Faheem knowingly concealed the car after the blast or was used by Nabi without his knowledge.
“His interrogation will be crucial in establishing whether Nabi handed him the car or if he was unknowingly used to conceal it after the blast,” an officer said.
“His statement may provide the missing link in tracking Nabi’s final movements and the vehicle’s use before it was abandoned.”
Links to Al Falah Medical College
Faheem reportedly has connections in Dhauj, a nearby area where one of his friends operates a car repair workshopclose to Al Falah Medical College — the institution where Dr Nabi worked as a faculty member and where several other suspects were associated.
Investigators are examining whether the EcoSport was repaired or modified at this workshop before being abandoned.
Possible Female Accomplice Under Probe
Authorities have also identified a woman who was reportedly with Faheem when the car was left in Khandawali. Her identity and role are under verification.
“We are verifying her identity and role. It is being investigated whether she knew about the car’s connection to Nabi or the ongoing case,” a second police officer said.
Forensic Findings and Heightened Security
Preliminary forensic inspection of the red Ford EcoSport revealed suspected traces of ammonium nitrate, indicating possible use or transport of explosive material.
The car was located and seized on Wednesday, following a specific intelligence input from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, which has been assisting in tracing vehicles linked to the busted “white-collar” terror module.
In light of these developments, Faridabad Police have intensified security in and around Khandawali and Dhauj, both areas closely tied to the suspects and Al Falah University, now emerging as a central point in the investigation.
The arrest marks another significant lead in unraveling the wider network behind the Red Fort blast, which authorities believe involved a coordinated terror plot spanning Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir.
