Delhi Police Arrest Three Delivery Workers in UP for Robbing ₹5 Lakh from Collection Agent

New Delhi, November 29, 2025: In a significant development, Delhi Police have arrested three men from Uttar Pradesh in connection with a high-value robbery of ₹5 lakh from a collection agent in Delhi’s Shadipur area last month. The accused, identified as Ram Avtar, Sikander, and Veeru Sonkar, all natives of Gonda, Uttar Pradesh, were working as delivery executives in the capital when the crime took place.

The robbery occurred on October 22, when the collection agent, employed by an online grocery delivery company, was carrying cash collected from multiple outlets. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Nidhin Valsan, the three men, riding a stolen motorcycle, intercepted the agent in Shadipur. They blocked his path and forcibly snatched the cash bag before fleeing the scene.

Investigation and Surveillance

Following the incident, Delhi Police launched a thorough investigation based on the complaint lodged by the victim. Officers meticulously examined CCTV footage from multiple locations, which revealed the motorcycle used in the robbery. The investigation confirmed that the vehicle was stolen. The CCTV images also provided clear visuals of the suspects, enabling police to track their movements.

Local informants indicated that the accused were residing in the Faridpuri area of Gonda, Uttar Pradesh, prompting authorities to coordinate with UP police for surveillance and eventual apprehension. Technical analysis, including mobile number tracking and call detail records, further revealed that the trio had fled to Uttar Pradesh following the robbery. They were arrested on Friday, November 28.

Recovery of Cash and Assets

During searches and questioning, the police recovered a total of ₹1,37,500 in cash from Ram Avtar’s possession. Veeru Sonkar was found with a motorcycle and an expensive mobile phone, reportedly purchased using part of the stolen money. Sikander had already deposited ₹1,53,000 of the loot into his bank account, which has since been frozen. Additionally, the clothing worn by the accused during the robbery has been seized as evidence.

Modus Operandi

Interrogation of the accused revealed that all three had previously worked with online delivery companies and had registered accounts on the respective platforms. The investigation also uncovered the involvement of an absconding accomplice, Manoj, who was employed at one of the company’s outlets in Patel Nagar. Manoj allegedly provided critical information to the robbers, including the complainant’s scooter details and cash collection schedule, facilitating the attack.

The accused also confessed to participating in two earlier snatching cases in Ranjit Nagar, indicating a pattern of targeting delivery personnel and cash collection agents. Delhi Police confirmed that efforts are underway to arrest the absconding accomplice, Manoj, and to investigate the trio’s possible links to other similar crimes in the city.

Police Statement

DCP Nidhin Valsan said, “The recovery of cash, vehicles, and electronic items, coupled with the confession of the accused, has helped us piece together the entire sequence of events. This case underscores the need for delivery personnel to exercise caution and for companies to implement robust safety protocols for cash collection.”

The arrest highlights Delhi Police’s investigative capabilities, particularly in using CCTV evidence, informants, and digital surveillance to track suspects across state borders. Officials emphasized that such coordination with neighbouring states is critical in tackling crimes involving transient perpetrators, such as delivery workers who can easily move between cities.

Implications for Online Delivery Security

This incident brings into focus the risks faced by cash-handling personnel in online delivery services, especially in high-density urban areas. Companies are urged to adopt digital payment methods and real-time tracking systems to minimize the need for physical cash collection. Additionally, regular background checks and strict verification of employees handling large sums of money could prevent similar crimes in the future.

The Delhi Police’s swift action in arresting the suspects and recovering part of the stolen money is expected to reassure citizens and businesses of the administration’s commitment to maintaining law and order in the city.
