New Delhi, January 9, 2026: Delhi Police on Friday arrested another individual in connection with the stone-pelting incident that occurred at Turkman Gate earlier this week, bringing the total number of arrests in the case to 12. Authorities have maintained heightened security measures in the area, particularly in anticipation of Friday prayers, to prevent any untoward incidents, officials said.
The newly arrested suspect has been identified as Mohd Imran, according to Additional Commissioner of Police (ACP) Nidhin Valsan. ACP Valsan confirmed that investigations into the incident are ongoing and that police teams continue to probe the involvement of other individuals connected to the violence.
“We have arrested Mohd Imran. Further investigation is underway. Security will remain tightened in the area,” ACP Valsan told PTI.
Security Measures and Precautions
In light of the recent unrest, a large contingent of police and paramilitary personnel has been deployed in sensitive pockets of Turkman Gate, including narrow lanes, key intersections, and areas surrounding mosques. Senior officers have been on the ground supervising operations, ensuring that law and order is maintained.
Authorities are also employing drone surveillance and extensive CCTV monitoring to track movement across the locality and swiftly respond to any potential incidents. Despite the heavy security presence, officials emphasized that the situation has remained peaceful and under control.
Clarifying concerns regarding Friday prayers, ACP Valsan reassured residents that no restrictions have been imposed on any mosque.
“We have not put any restrictions on Friday prayers in any mosque. We have also checked the structural safety of the demolition site,” he said, adding that earlier prohibitory measures would be lifted once normalcy is restored.
Another senior police official stressed that the tightened security measures are purely precautionary and are aimed at ensuring the safety of residents and preventing the recurrence of violence.
“We have made adequate arrangements in view of Friday prayers. Our teams are maintaining strict vigil and are in constant touch with local community members to ensure peace. We have not even restricted the number of visitors to the mosque,” the officer said.
Probes into Social Media Role
Delhi Police has also turned its focus to the role of social media in the spread of misinformation related to the incident. Officials stated that 10 social media influencers have been identified for allegedly circulating misleading or unverified information that may have aggravated tensions.
One influencer, Aimen Rizvi, has reportedly not yet appeared for questioning despite being summoned. Another individual, Salman, is under review, and a summons is expected to be issued soon as part of the ongoing investigation.
In addition, authorities are examining the potential involvement of a Samajwadi Party Member of Parliament, whose statements and role in the incident are currently being scrutinized.
“We are checking his role. We may send him a notice. All his statements are being scanned and examined as part of the probe,” a senior officer said.
Police have also reiterated an appeal to the public to remain calm, avoid spreading or reacting to unverified information, and rely solely on official sources for updates.
Investigation Progress
Investigators are pursuing multiple lines of inquiry, including the examination of digital evidence, identification of participants in the stone-pelting, and verification of social media posts related to the unrest. Authorities said that while 12 individuals have been arrested so far, further arrests and notices may be issued as the investigation progresses.
Officials stressed that the primary objective is to ensure the restoration of normalcy in Turkman Gate, protect residents, and prevent further incidents of communal or law-and-order disruption.
“Investigations are progressing on multiple fronts. We are examining digital evidence, questioning suspects, and monitoring social media activity linked to the incident. The public’s cooperation is essential in maintaining peace,” police said.
As investigations continue, Delhi Police officials have indicated that security arrangements in Turkman Gate and adjacent areas will remain stringent until authorities are satisfied that the situation is stable and the risk of further unrest has passed.
