
Rt. Hon. Ajero Prosper Okeoghene, leader of the Ughelli North Local Government Legislative Arm, has been impeached following allegations of gross misconduct and abuse of office.
The impeachment motion was signed by 12 of the 18 councillors present at a plenary session on Wednesday, meeting the required two-thirds majority stipulated under the Delta Local Government Law 2013 (as amended).
According to the councillors, Okeoghene’s removal was due to misappropriation of funds, inability to lead the house effectively, high-handedness, refusal to convene plenary sessions, and excessive drunkenness. The motion for his removal was moved by Hon. Onome Isherhe and seconded by Hon. Clever Erhuvwu Ofariko, while the motion for the election of a new leader was moved by Hon. Collins Arhiakpore and seconded by Hon. Felicia Diedjomaho.
The new leader of the Ughelli North Legislative Arm is Rt. Hon. Solomon Oghenero Agbini, councillor representing Ogor Ward 1.
Several councillors who signed the impeachment include Hon. Orido December, Hon. Victor, Hon. Igogono Goddey, Hon. Felicia Diedjomaho, Hon. Inana Oke Festus, Hon. Clever Erhuvwu Ofariko, Hon. Collins Arhiakpore, Hon. Joseph Friday Obara, Hon. Onome Isherhe, and Hon. Palmer Israel.
Attempts to reach Okeoghene for comment were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
