Delta Police Under Probe After Officers Assault Motorist, Steal Vehicle

A shocking video circulating online shows at least three police officers in Delta State assaulting a young motorist and forcibly taking his car in Asaba, the state capital.

In the footage obtained by SaharaReporters, two officers restrained the man by holding his hands while a third officer got into his vehicle and drove off. Despite the victim’s attempts to pursue his car, he was blocked from following, highlighting a brazen abuse of authority.

The Delta State Police Command confirmed the incident and condemned the officers’ conduct. Police Public Relations Officer SP Bright Edafe stated on X (formerly Twitter) that the behavior was unprofessional and that the command had begun investigating the case, though it remains unclear if the officers have been identified, suspended, or if the vehicle has been recovered.

This incident follows a similar case in Bayelsa State, where two officers were caught on camera assaulting a tricycle operator over a driver’s license dispute. Videos showed the victim repeatedly beaten with rifles and shoes, leaving him seriously injured.

The latest case has reignited public concern over police misconduct and the need for accountability.
