The elder sister of late Afrofuji singer Afeez Adeshina, popularly known as Destiny Boy, has spoken out to defend their mother following controversy sparked by a resurfaced voice note online.
The singer, who passed away at the age of 22, had his death widely reported across social media, leading to grief, speculation, and unverified claims about the circumstances surrounding his passing.
Shortly after his burial in Abeokuta, Ogun State, videos of Destiny Boy’s body being transported to a mortuary circulated online, drawing strong reactions. Around the same time, an old voice recording of his mother surfaced in which she reportedly spoke harshly to him during a disagreement. The clip led some online users to accuse her of wrongdoing, including unfounded allegations of ritual involvement.
Reacting to the backlash, Destiny Boy’s elder sister addressed fans and the public via TikTok (@adedayo.mistura12), speaking in Yoruba. She clarified that the voice note was taken out of context and defended her mother’s actions:
“Please, was it in your presence that Destiny Boy’s mother killed him? You are cursing Destiny Boy’s mother. Is it possible for a mother to kill her child? He and my mum had an issue, and my mother was speaking as a mother so he could listen. Bloggers and social media users should not spread false stories and drag our family during this painful time.”
Her statement emphasized that her mother’s words were out of concern, as any parent would, and called for respect for the family’s grief. The sister’s intervention has prompted mixed reactions online, with many urging the public to avoid spreading rumors.
