Ride-hailing company Bolt has reported a significant increase in airport trips, highlighting the influx of Nigerians in the diaspora, tourists, and holiday travellers ahead of the festive season, popularly known as ‘Detty December’.
Internal mobility data from Bolt revealed that between November 20 and December 5, airport trips surged sharply, with Lagos recording a 14.9% increase and Abuja experiencing a 17.56% rise during the period.
The trend marks the onset of one of the busiest travel windows of the year, as travellers arrive for concerts, weddings, festivals, nightlife, and family reunions.
To accommodate the rising demand, Bolt has increased driver availability around airports, improved pick-up efficiency, and strengthened safety communications for both riders and drivers.
“We’re excited to see more people coming into Nigeria to enjoy Detty December,” said Weyinmi Aghadiuno, Head of Regulatory & Policy Africa at Bolt.
“Whether riders are heading from the airport to hotels, events, or family homes, Bolt is committed to providing reliable, convenient, and safe mobility throughout the festive season. This season is all about connection, reuniting with loved ones, and experiencing the best of Nigerian entertainment, and Bolt is here to help people get to the heart of that experience from the moment they land.”
Bolt’s report underscores the growing role of digital mobility platforms in supporting peak travel seasons, ensuring smooth transit for both local and international visitors during Nigeria’s celebrated festive period.
