Retired DSP Jagdish Patani, father of Bollywood actress Disha Patani, has been officially granted a weapons license by the Bareilly district administration following a targeted attack at their ancestral home in Uttar Pradesh. The license comes in the wake of a violent incident on September 11 and 12, when gunmen reportedly linked to the Goldy Brar and Rohit Godara gang opened fire outside the Patani residence.
Why the license was issued
Jagdish Patani approached the Bareilly District Magistrate, seeking authorization to legally possess a firearm after the shooting incident created serious security concerns. The request was processed in accordance with official procedures, and the retired DSP has now been granted a license to carry a revolver/pistol.
Following the attack, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had assured the family that strict security measures would be put in place. Bareilly District Magistrate Avnish Singh confirmed to PTI that the weapons license was issued after Jagdish Patani completed all the formalities.
Details of the attack
The attack occurred over two days, September 11 and 12, 2025, when unidentified assailants on motorcycles fired approximately 10 rounds at the Patani residence. Subsequent investigation revealed that the attackers were members of the Rohit Godara–Goldy Brar gang, a criminal network involved in targeted shootings and other violent activities.
A case was promptly registered at Kotwali police station. Within days, a coordinated operation by the Uttar Pradesh Police’s Special Task Force (STF), Haryana STF, and Delhi Police led to the killing of the two main suspects in a Ghaziabad encounter on September 17. The swift action underscored the authorities’ commitment to protecting the actress and her family.
Disha Patani’s recent and upcoming projects
Despite the scare, Disha Patani continues to focus on her work in the film industry. She was last seen in Yodha (Hindi, 2024), Kalki 2898 AD (Telugu), and Kanguva (Tamil). Kalki 2898 AD marked her second Telugu film after Loafer(2025), while Kanguva was her debut in Tamil cinema.
Additionally, she appeared as herself in Aryan Khan’s Netflix debut web series, The Ba**ds of Bollywood*. Looking ahead, Disha is set to make her Hollywood debut with Kevin Spacey’s Holiguards Saga — The Portal of Force and will also feature in the Hindi film Welcome to the Jungle. Further announcements regarding upcoming projects are awaited.
Security and safety measures
With the weapons license now in place, Jagdish Patani can legally protect himself and his family amid ongoing concerns over targeted attacks. The authorities continue to maintain heightened security around the Patani residence in Bareilly, reflecting the seriousness of threats posed by criminal gangs like that of Goldy Brar and Rohit Godara.
This incident highlights the intersection of celebrity life and personal security, especially for public figures like Disha Patani whose family members may also face risks due to their prominence in the entertainment industry.
