Don’t Destroy Your School on Social Media – UNIOSUN VC Warns Students

The Vice Chancellor of Osun State University (UNIOSUN), Prof. Clement Adebooye, has issued a stern warning to students against using social media to portray the institution negatively, cautioning that such actions harm everyone connected to the school.

Prof. Adebooye spoke during the 19th matriculation ceremony in Osogbo on Thursday, stressing that negative depictions of the university online can impact not only the school’s reputation but also students’ academic and professional futures.

“I say a big congratulations to our fresh graduates. Out of about 40,000 candidates who participated in our Post-UTME screening, only a little over 13,000 (approximately 30%) qualified to be here today as undergraduates,” he said.

He reminded students that being among the selected few comes with responsibility. “You must be ready to defend the admission that has been graciously offered to you. UNIOSUN has zero tolerance for all forms of negative behavior such as cultism, exam malpractice, fraud, cybercrime, drug abuse, and other vices that destroy promising futures,” Prof. Adebooye said.

The VC further warned: “Do not use social media to demarket your university. Whenever the image of the university is presented negatively online, you are also affected negatively. Unexpected things happen everywhere, so please report any incidents to university authorities.”

Prof. Adebooye also highlighted the challenge of student accommodation across UNIOSUN campuses, assuring students and parents that decisive steps are being taken to address the situation.
