A sitting councillor representing Shamaki Ward in Gombe Local Government Area was publicly assaulted and humiliated by a driver attached to Abubakar Inuwa Kari, Chief of Staff to Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya.

A disturbing video obtained by SaharaReporters shows the councillor seated on his motorcycle as the driver repeatedly punches and strikes him in broad daylight. The councillor can be heard begging for the attack to stop, while bystanders also plead for calm.

Despite the appeals, the driver continued his assault, threatening anyone who tried to intervene. At one point, he was heard speaking in Hausa, angrily questioning whether the councillor considered himself a “mate” of the Chief of Staff, implying disrespect.

The incident has sparked outrage, with calls for a thorough investigation and accountability. As of now, neither the Gombe State Government nor the office of the Chief of Staff has issued an official statement regarding the attack.
