The Edo State Government has stepped up efforts to combat substance abuse among youths with a statewide campus sensitization tour. The campaign, “Shine Above Drug Abuse,” is being led by Hon. Andrew Efe, Senior Special Assistant on Drug and Illicit Control to Governor Monday Okpebholo.
The tour has visited institutions across the three senatorial districts, including University of Benin, Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, and Auchi Polytechnic. During interactive town hall sessions and rallies, students were educated on the dangers of drug abuse and the importance of making responsible choices.
Efe emphasized the urgency of early intervention and the state government’s commitment to creating drug-free campuses. “A new Edo begins with a new mindset. Each of you has the power to break cycles, inspire positive change, and represent your community with pride,” he said.
The campaign also included Q&A sessions with cash prizes, encouraging active participation and reinforcing the message of prevention. Students participated in rallies to demonstrate solidarity for drug-free learning environments.
