Electrical Surge Suspected as Fire Breaks Out at Leventis Plaza in Abuja

The Federal Fire Service (FFS) has successfully contained a fire outbreak at Leventis Plaza, Abuja, averting what could have escalated into a major commercial disaster in the Federal Capital Territory.

In a statement signed by DCF P.O Abraham, National PRO/Head of Corporate Services, the FFS reported that the incident occurred in a tailoring workshop on the plaza’s first floor.

The fire was suspected to have been caused by an electrical surge, a common trigger for fires in commercial settings. Quick and coordinated action by firefighters prevented the flames from spreading to neighboring structures, including Grand Square, The Palm Hotels, and Frazier’s Suites.

According to the FFS, Special Unit firefighters led by SF Adoko arrived within five minutes of the distress call. Firefighting operations included suppression, salvage, overhaul, and thorough inspection, ensuring nearby properties were protected.

The rapid response reportedly saved property valued at approximately ₦900 million out of an estimated ₦1 billion exposed to risk.

The FFS used the incident to reiterate its nationwide mandate to protect lives and property, urging public vigilance, especially regarding electrical installations. The public was reminded of emergency contacts, including the FFS line 08032003557 and the national emergency number 112.
