The Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, and former Senate President Dr. Bukola Saraki have lauded the philanthropy of legal luminary Prof. Yusuf Ali (SAN) during a public book launch in the Kwara State capital.
The event, which also featured the unveiling of Ali’s traditional title, Kuliya Ngari of Ilorin, was held in honour of the Osun indigene and philanthropist. The book, Kuliya Ilorin: A Life of Purpose, was authored by Mallam Biodun AbdulKareem, former Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kwara State Council.
Speaking on behalf of the Emir, Dr. Usman Atolagbe Jos praised Ali for his contributions to the people of Ilorin, noting that his generosity extends to both Muslims and Christians.
“He has been very useful to our community. As he continues his philanthropic work, we receive positive feedback at the palace. We pray that God guides him and grants him long life,” said Dr. Atolagbe.
Dr. Saraki, represented by former Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly Prof. Ali Ahmad, commended Ali for using his resources to assist others rather than for personal indulgence.
“Students and young professionals who are mentored by Yusuf Ali are very fortunate. He invests not only financially but also in their personal and professional growth. Despite not being the wealthiest lawyer in Ilorin or Nigeria, he never stops thinking of others,” Prof. Ahmad noted.
Also speaking, SAN Adebayo Adelodun praised Ali’s generosity, calling him a man of purpose, discipline, and dignity.
“One of the most remarkable things about Yusuf Ali is his generosity of both spirit and purse. He has positively impacted colleagues, mentees, institutions, and countless individuals,” Adelodun said.
Mentee Kehinde Eleja (SAN) described Ali as a mentor and father figure who continues to guide him personally and professionally.
“Mallam Yusuf Ali has taught me the ABCs of legal practice and continues to support me. He treats me with care and mentorship in ways that are truly extraordinary,” Eleja said.
In his response, Ali humbly attributed his humanitarian work to divine guidance rather than personal effort.
“Whenever people speak about my contributions, I feel humbled. No one makes themselves kind-hearted; it is God who counts me so. I consider myself very fortunate,” he said.
The event highlighted not only Ali’s professional achievements but also his lasting legacy of generosity and mentorship.
