Dr. SKC Ogbonnia, former presidential aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Enugu State, has resigned from the party, citing what he described as failed governance under President Bola Tinubu.
In a resignation letter addressed to his ward chairman and copied to all tiers of the APC, Ogbonnia enclosed his party membership card and explained that the decision followed consultation with his family, political allies, and personal reflection on the party’s trajectory.
Ogbonnia, a founding member of the APC, criticized the party on several grounds:
- Failed national governance: Poor handling of insecurity, poverty, and unemployment.
- Lack of internal democracy: Undemocratic practices, imposition of leaders, vendetta politics, and nepotism.
- Youth exclusion: Limited inclusion of youth in key federal appointments.
- Threats to sovereignty: Alleged foreign military interventions due to weak leadership.
- Endorsement of Tinubu for 2027: Calling it an insult to Nigerians due to perceived irredeemable failures.
He also claimed that President Tinubu has lost credibility with both Nigerians and international allies, particularly the United States, and concluded that the APC no longer serves the best interests of his community or the nation.
Ogbonnia thanked the party for past support during his 2019 presidential bid but said he could no longer align with a political path that undermines democratic principles.
