A former Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido, has expressed outrage after being denied access to purchase the nomination form to contest for the position of National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The party is set to hold its Elective National Convention on November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Lamido, who arrived at the PDP National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja, on Monday morning, said he was shocked that party officials refused to sell the nomination form to him — a move he described as “unacceptable and undemocratic.”
Speaking to journalists after the incident, the former governor said he remained committed to participating in the forthcoming convention but vowed to seek legal redress if the party failed to allow him to contest.
“I came here to buy the form for the chairmanship position, but I was denied. This is not the democracy our party stands for,” Lamido stated. “If this continues, I will have no choice but to approach the court for justice.”
Lamido had earlier confirmed his intention to vie for the position in a post on his verified Facebook page, announcing plans to visit the PDP headquarters by 11 a.m. on Monday, October 27, 2025, to obtain the nomination form.
Meanwhile, former Minister of Special Duties, Kabiru Turaki (SAN), has formally submitted his Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms to contest for the same position.
Turaki, who is reportedly the consensus candidate of a majority of the party’s stakeholders, submitted his forms at the National Convention Organising Committee Secretariat, Legacy House, Abuja.
He was accompanied by friends, political associates, and supporters, who expressed confidence in his leadership capacity to strengthen the PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The unfolding development has heightened political tension within the party as it prepares for a convention that could shape its leadership and future direction.
