Ex-LG Chairmen Endorse Senator Barau as APC’s Sole Governorship Candidate for 2027

Former local government chairmen in Kano State have unanimously endorsed Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, as the All Progressives Congress (APC) sole candidate for the 2027 gubernatorial race.

The adoption took place during a courtesy visit to the National Assembly in Abuja on Wednesday. The motion was moved by Barrister Dahiru Mannir Maigari, former chairman of Rimin Gado LGA, and seconded by Hon. Baffa Mohammed Takai, former chairman of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) in Kano. A voice vote by all attending former chairmen confirmed the endorsement.

Speaking during the visit, Alhaji Khalid Ishak Diso, former chairman of Gwale LGA, urged Senator Barau to formally declare his governorship ambition, noting that Kano residents, particularly at the grassroots level, are eagerly awaiting his decision.

“The people of Kano are anxiously awaiting your declaration. Please answer the call to serve our people,” Diso said.

Hon. Takai highlighted Barau’s contributions to parliamentary work and development in Kano, expressing confidence in his capacity to tackle the state’s challenges.

Responding, Senator Barau thanked the former chairmen for their support, describing them as key grassroots politicians. He noted Kano’s decline in development over recent years and pledged to restore the state to its former glory.

Additionally, stakeholders from Tsanyawa and Ghari LGAs also endorsed Barau, with over 100 attendees applauding the announcement. Hon. Garba Yau Gwarmai and Hon. Aminu Yakanawa affirmed the people’s solid backing for Barau ahead of the 2027 elections.

On security concerns in Tsanyawa and Shanono LGAs, Barau assured that measures are being implemented quietly to address challenges without publicizing every step.

“We are not leaving any stone unturned in tackling this challenge. We have taken all necessary steps,” he said.

The endorsement signals strong grassroots momentum for Senator Barau as he prepares for the 2027 gubernatorial contest.
