Fayose Slams PDP Faction’s Protest at US Embassy as “Shameful”

Former Ekiti Governor Ayodele Fayose has criticized a protest by some PDP members at the United States Embassy in Abuja, calling it shameful and the “last kick of a dead National Working Committee (NWC).”

In a statement, Fayose questioned why the US or European countries should intervene in resolving the internal issues of a Nigerian political party. He suggested that the suspended National Chairman, Umar Iliya Damagum, and his allies should have traveled to Washington if they wanted to protest, rather than doing so in Abuja.

Fayose accused Damagum’s faction of ignoring the PDP constitution by suspending major NWC members, including the National Secretary, and bypassing proper legal procedures in court matters. He emphasized that these internal lapses are not the concern of foreign governments, asserting that party issues should be resolved domestically.

The remarks come amid ongoing internal PDP disputes, ahead of the party’s planned National Convention, with the court previously ruling that certain state congresses must be concluded before the convention.
