The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has terminated the 13-kilometre Apo-Karshi road contract previously awarded to Kakatar Engineering Ltd in 2011. The project has now been reassigned to SCC, with work already underway.
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike disclosed this after inspecting ongoing road projects in Karu, Gishiri, and the dualisation of the Outer Southern Expressway in Abuja. He emphasized that the road will provide an alternative route, reducing traffic congestion for residents of Nyanya, Karu, and surrounding areas.
Wike noted that delays in the original contract were due to funding challenges and other issues. He also confirmed that the Kubwa-Bwari road project, awarded to SCC, has commenced and will similarly ease traffic once completed.
The minister expressed optimism that these projects would be completed on schedule by mid-2026, coinciding with the third year of President Bola Tinubu’s administration. He assured that 2026 will focus on completing ongoing infrastructure projects, with priority given to roads, health, and education, rather than starting new initiatives.
“People appreciate visible development, and that is what motivates us,” Wike said, highlighting the positive reception from residents and students during his site visits.
