The Ferdinand Effah Music Heritage Foundation (FEMHF) is leveraging the power of music to spotlight the needs of autistic individuals and their families in Nigeria.
In a statement on Tuesday, FEMHF President and Trustee Stanley Effah highlighted the challenges faced by autistic people, including stigma, social exclusion, limited access to specialised support services, and financial strain.
To address these issues, FEMHF has launched an annual music concert initiative designed to raise awareness, promote acceptance, and mobilise practical support for autistic individuals and their caregivers.
Effah explained, “Music, like positive memories, is a universal language that brings people together. It connects communities, humanises lived experiences, and gives visibility to autistic individuals and families whose needs are often overlooked.”
The concerts will feature leading Nigerian artists, FEMHF’s in-house Ferdy’s Band, and talented autistic individuals, creating an inclusive space for engagement with the wider public. The initiative aims to showcase abilities, celebrate talent, and challenge misconceptions about autism.
Beyond entertainment, the concerts will serve as a fundraising platform, supporting autistic children and young adults from underprivileged families with therapies, medical care, specialised education, and long-term skills development programmes to promote self-reliance and sustainable livelihoods.
Effah added, “These concerts are about celebrating dignity, recognising abilities, and ensuring autistic individuals have the opportunities they deserve to thrive.”
