The Federal Government plans to equip at least seven million Nigerian youths with digital skills and dual vocational training as part of a broader youth empowerment agenda.
Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, announced the initiative during a meeting with the IHK Giessen-Friedberg Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Germany. The programme, led by the Nigerian Youth Academy (NIYA), aims to foster self-reliance, innovation, and employability, preparing youths not just as job seekers but as entrepreneurs and innovators.
Key features include:
- Partnerships with German and Nigerian institutions to expand vocational and digital training.
- A digital learning platform under NIYA, modeled after global platforms like Coursera, to broaden access nationwide.
- A tripartite strategy of Support, Empowerment, and Protection to ensure youth thrive in a competitive global environment.
Dr. Matthias Leder, CEO of IHK Giessen-Friedberg, highlighted ongoing cooperation, including the selection of 300 Nigerian youths for the Legal Labour Migration and Dual Vocational Training Project, with recognition scheduled for November 12, 2025.
The initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and underscores Nigeria’s commitment to developing a globally competitive youth workforce.
