The Federal Government has commissioned a state-of-the-art veterinary hospital in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, marking another milestone in efforts to strengthen animal health and livestock production nationwide.
The Yola centre becomes the seventh such facility established across the country, following similar projects in Sokoto, Enugu, Niger, Ondo, Edo and Borno states. An additional 14 facilities are currently at various stages of completion under the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES).
Funded by the World Bank through L-PRES and implemented by the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, the facility was inaugurated by the Minister of Livestock Development, Alhaji Idi Maiha.
Maiha described the project as a major step forward in the Federal Government’s plan to reposition the livestock sector for greater efficiency and sustainability. He said President Bola Tinubu’s establishment of the livestock ministry underscores a renewed national commitment to modernizing animal health and production systems.
“We are witnessing the beginning of a new era in livestock development. There is no more neglect,” he said, urging veterinary professionals to make full use of the modern facility to improve service delivery.
Also speaking, the National Coordinator of L-PRES, Dr. Sanusi Abubakar, said the hospital is equipped with advanced technologies designed to reduce livestock mortality, improve productivity and boost economic opportunities for pastoralists and commercial livestock operators.
