The Federal Government has carried out an on-site inspection of the Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo, as part of ongoing efforts to upgrade the facility to full international status. The inspection was led by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, along with members of a technical committee.
According to Keyamo’s Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Tunde Moshood, the delegation was divided into three technical groups to cover all critical areas: the terminal building, the aerodrome and control tower, and the runway/airside facilities. The visit was coordinated seamlessly with support from Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State.
Moshood stated:
“The high-level delegation included the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Yakubu Kofarmata; Director General of the NCAA, Capt. Chris Najomo; Director, Air Transport Management, Ahmed Tijani; Director of Aerodrome, Engr. Godwin Balang; and other senior officials from relevant aviation agencies.”
The Minister and his team expressed strong satisfaction with the quality and pace of work carried out by the Akwa Ibom State Government, commending the airport’s design for enabling seamless processing of passengers from domestic to international flights.
The airport’s Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility, coupled with its ultra-modern terminal infrastructure, was highlighted as reflecting world-class standards, positioning Uyo as a growing aviation hub with potential for improved connectivity, increased investment, and economic growth.
Minister Keyamo further disclosed that a technical committee has been constituted to ensure the prompt and efficient completion of the upgrade. Committee members are expected to mobilize to the site from the first week of January 2026 to fast-track remaining works and achieve full international operations at the airport.
