The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to restoring trust in public communication through honest, patriotic, and purposeful messaging.
Speaking at the 2025 Nigeria Excellence Award in Public Service (NEAPS) in Abuja, Idris emphasized:
- Government aims to tackle fake news, misinformation, and disinformation, which he described as major threats to society.
- The Ministry, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) are working together to ensure Nigerians receive accurate information in line with rules and regulations.
- The recognition from awards, including NEAPS and the Business Day Award for Excellence in Public Service, motivates the Ministry to further its service to the nation.
Idris highlighted that the communication mandate comes directly from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and he stressed the importance of national unity and patriotism:
“We don’t have any other place to go. This is our country. We should be proud to be here and must join hands in ensuring that we move it forward.”
He also credited the Ministry’s staff and agency heads for contributing to the repositioning of Nigeria’s information and communication sector, describing it as part of the Renewed Hope Agenda for national development.
Other awardees at the NEAPS event included governors from Bauchi, Zamfara, Kogi, Enugu, and ministers from Aviation, Women Affairs, among others.
