FG Postpones NAFEST 2025 Amid Insecurity Concerns

The Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy has announced the postponement of the 2025 National Festival of Arts and Culture (NAFEST), which was set to begin on November 22 in Enugu State.

The announcement was made in Abuja by Nneka Anibeze, Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the Minister. The decision follows a review of the national mood and rising insecurity in several parts of the country.

“In solidarity with affected families and communities, and in respect for lives lost, Minister Hannatu Musawa, in consultation with stakeholders, has approved the postponement of the festival to a later date,” the statement said.

NAFEST, which brings together cultural troupes from across the country, has long been celebrated for fostering national unity, social cohesion, and cultural diplomacy. Over 28 states had already mobilized to participate in this year’s edition.

“While this year’s festival was poised to highlight Nigeria’s resilience and inclusiveness, proceeding at a time when many citizens are grieving would be inappropriate. Postponement is the respectful and responsible choice,” the ministry added.

The minister assured that the festival would return at a later date, with the new schedule to be announced after consultations with stakeholders and security agencies. She also thanked participating states, cultural troupes, partners, and the public for their understanding and support.

“NAFEST remains a key platform for showcasing Nigeria’s rich cultural diversity. Our commitment to a stronger and more unifying festival remains unwavering,” she concluded.
