
A fire outbreak on Thursday, December 11, 2025, severely damaged key sections of the Rogo General Hospital in Rogo Local Government Area of Kano State, the Kano State Fire Service has confirmed.
The incident was disclosed in a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the service, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, on Thursday.
According to the statement, the Fire Service Emergency Response Unit, led by Director Alhaji Sani Anas, received a distress call at 2:36 PM from Abdullahi Ahmad Rifan, reporting a fire at the hospital premises.
Firefighters from the Karaye and Rogo Fire Stations were immediately deployed to the scene.
Extent of the Fire Damage
Upon arrival, the firefighters found a one-storey building, measuring approximately 400 by 400 feet, engulfed in flames. Several critical units located on the ground floor of the hospital were significantly affected by the inferno. These units included:
- Physiotherapy Clinic (CMO)
- Medical Emergency Unit (MEU) office
- Dental Unit
- Out-Patient Department (OPD)
- ACC/Card room
- DOT Office
- Laboratory Office
Cause of the Fire
Preliminary findings by the Fire Service suggest that the fire was caused by an electrical spark. However, officials confirmed that further investigations would be carried out to determine the exact cause of the incident.
At the time of the statement, the authorities had not confirmed if there were any casualties or the extent of damage to medical equipment or patient records.
Fire Safety Advisory
In response to the fire, the Director of the Fire Service urged the public to remain vigilant and adopt fire safety measures, particularly during the harmattan season, which is known for an increase in fire outbreaks.
He advised residents to take necessary precautions to safeguard both lives and property from preventable fire disasters.
