Fire Erupts at Katangowa Area, Abule Egba; Residents Panic

A fire broke out on Monday at the Katangowa pipeline area in Abule Egba, Lagos State, after stored foams suddenly ignited. Thick smoke plumes triggered panic among residents and commuters, causing temporary traffic congestion as motorists abandoned the route.

Before emergency responders arrived, locals and passersby attempted to contain the blaze using water, sand, and other available materials. Their efforts slowed the fire but could not fully control it.

Officials from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service later arrived and successfully brought the situation under control, preventing the fire from spreading to nearby buildings and critical facilities.

No casualties were reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Authorities have urged residents to exercise caution near pipeline installations and other hazardous areas.
