Tragedy struck early Wednesday at Kundila Layin Baba Impossible in Tarauni Local Government Area, as a fire caused by a mosquito coil claimed the lives of four family members.
The Kano State Fire Service reported that an emergency call came in at 4:13 a.m. from a staff member alerting them to the blaze.
Upon arrival, fire officers found a ground-floor building engulfed in flames, affecting two bedrooms, a parlour, a toilet, and a kitchen. Five people were trapped inside.
The victims were identified as:
- Shodandi, aged 43
- Rafi’a, aged 30
- Mardiya, aged 3
- Yusira, aged 1½
Tragically, all four perished in the fire. A 12-year-old boy, Aminu Shodandi, was rescued alive.
The Fire Service extended condolences to the bereaved family and urged caution when using fire sources, particularly during the harmattan season.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the fire started after the family used a mosquito coil in their parlour before going to sleep.
“The director and entire staff of this agency offer their condolences to the families of those who died,” the agency said in a statement.
