A fire outbreak caused by an electrical fault has affected the headquarters of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) in Abuja, damaging several offices on the fourth floor of the building.
The incident occurred on Saturday and was confirmed by FIRS management in a statement shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) account. According to the agency, on-duty security personnel detected the fire early and immediately activated emergency response measures to prevent the situation from escalating.
Emergency responders, including officials of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Fire Service, arrived swiftly and successfully contained the blaze, stopping it from spreading to other parts of the building.
FIRS confirmed that no lives were lost in the incident, though a number of offices on the affected floor sustained damage.
“Preliminary findings suggest the fire was caused by an electrical fault, but a comprehensive investigation is ongoing,” the agency stated.
The service added that it has begun reviewing its internal safety procedures and plans to strengthen existing fire prevention and emergency response protocols to avoid similar occurrences in the future.
FIRS also commended emergency responders and staff members for their prompt and coordinated actions, which it said helped to ensure staff safety and minimise damage to property.
