
At least five people, including three children, lost their lives in a tragic road accident on the Lokoja–Ajaokuta Road in Kogi State. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the crash, which occurred on Tuesday at around 11:40 a.m. in the Gidan Bassa community.
The collision involved a Toyota Avensis belonging to Omala Local Government Area and a Sino truck owned by Dangote Cement Plc, with registration numbers Kogi BJK172LG and BBR719SA respectively. The head-on crash claimed the lives of five occupants: three children (two girls and one boy) and two adults (one male and one female).
A total of 12 people were involved in the accident, with seven survivors sustaining various injuries, including fractures and bruises. They were rushed to Ekpe Hospital in Ganaja and ASCO Hospital in Ajaokuta for treatment.
Preliminary investigations by the FRSC indicate that the crash was caused by wrongful overtaking. Authorities recovered four mobile phones from the scene, and the damaged vehicles, along with personal belongings, were handed over to the Ajaokuta Police Division.
