Flamingos Return Home After U-17 Women’s World Cup Exit

Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, have returned to the country following their elimination from the 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

The team and their officials arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Friday morning after bowing out in the Round of 16.

Coach Bankole Olowookere’s girls were knocked out of the competition after a 4-0 defeat to Italy on Tuesday night.

Despite the setback, the Flamingos put up an impressive showing overall, winning three out of four matches at the tournament.

The West Africans began their campaign with losses to Canada and France, before bouncing back to defeat Samoa 4-0 in their final group match — a result that sealed their place in the knockout stage.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is expected to review the team’s performance as preparations begin for future age-grade competitions.
