Ford Recalls Over 272,000 U.S. Vehicles Due to Park Function Defect

Ford Motor Company (F.N) announced a major recall of 272,645 vehicles in the United States due to a potential defect in the integrated park module that could prevent vehicles from staying in the “Park” position, increasing the risk of rollaway accidents and crashes, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) confirmed on Friday.

Affected Vehicles

The recall affects select vehicles across multiple models and years, including:

  • 2022-2026 Ford F-150 Lightning BEV
  • 2024-2026 Ford Mustang Mach-E
  • 2025-2026 Ford Maverick

The issue involves the park module software, which may fail to lock the transmission in the park position even when the driver engages the “Park” gear, creating a safety hazard.

Recall Procedure and Solutions

Ford and the NHTSA confirmed that the software update to fix the park function will be provided free of charge. Owners can receive the update either over-the-air for compatible vehicles or through authorized Ford dealerships.

Vehicle owners are advised to monitor official communications from Ford and the NHTSA and to avoid leaving vehicles unattended on inclines until the update is applied.

Safety Implications

The defect raises concerns about vehicle rollaways, which can lead to property damage or injury. Ford’s prompt action aims to mitigate risks while ensuring driver and pedestrian safety. The NHTSA continues to monitor the situation and provides resources for affected vehicle owners.
