Former AGF Malami Confirms EFCC Invitation, Pledges Full Cooperation

Former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has confirmed that he has been invited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to provide clarification on certain matters.

In a statement shared on his Facebook page, Malami assured Nigerians that, as a law-abiding citizen, he will comply with the commission’s summons without hesitation.

“I am informing my family and friends that EFCC has invited me to clarify on some issues, and as a citizen committed to law, order, and patriotism, I am willing to honor this invitation without any hesitation,” he said.

Malami reaffirmed his commitment to honesty, integrity, and accountability in public service, emphasizing that these principles have guided his career.

The EFCC has reportedly raised questions regarding payments of $159 million in legal fees to Dr. Ted Iseghahi Edwards, who was implicated in the Paris Club refund case, despite documents indicating he did not represent the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON).

SaharaReporters reports suggest that Malami recommended the payment of these fees during former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, a move critics claim could amount to double payment and potential misappropriation of public funds.

Malami has not been formally charged but stated he would cooperate fully with authorities, promising to keep Nigerians informed of developments.
