
Former Chelsea midfielder Oscar is in stable condition in hospital after experiencing a heart issue during pre-season testing with his current club, Sao Paulo FC.
Incident During Pre-Season Testing
The 34-year-old Brazilian international fell ill while undergoing routine physical assessments at Sao Paulo’s training centre ahead of the upcoming season. According to the club, medical staff promptly attended to Oscar before transferring him to Einstein Hospital Israelita, where he remains under observation for further evaluation.
“Oscar presented an incident with cardiological changes and was immediately attended to by the club’s professionals and the hospital’s medical team,” the club stated.
Brazilian media outlet Globo reported that Oscar collapsed while using an exercise bike and was briefly unconscious for approximately two minutes.
Oscar’s Career and Recent Return to Brazil
Oscar began his professional career with Sao Paulo FC, returning to the club in December 2024 after a lengthy career abroad. He spent four years with Chelsea FC, scoring 38 goals in 203 appearances between July 2012 and December 2016, before moving to China for an eight-year stint in the Chinese Super League.
