Chaos erupted in Idimu, Alimosho Local Government, Lagos State, after three party guests and a truck motor boy were electrocuted during a chieftaincy celebration. The motor boy, who has not yet been identified, reportedly died on the spot.
The incident occurred on Anjorin Street during a party organized by a community member recently honored with a chieftaincy title. Several canopies had been erected for the guests.
According to witnesses, a truck attempting to navigate the street was blocked by one of the canopies. As party attendees and one of the truck’s occupants tried to lift the canopy, its metal frame made contact with an exposed electric cable, instantly electrocuting four people.
Eyewitness Femi Ajiboye described the scene:
“The coronation anniversary had been ongoing for a week, and the celebrant hosted his own party. The truck carrying sand tried to access a new estate but was blocked by the canopy. When people tried to lift it, they didn’t realize a live wire was nearby. The moment the frame touched it, the victims collapsed.”
The accident brought the celebration to a sudden halt, with guests fleeing for safety. Another resident, Olajide, confirmed that the victims were rushed to a hospital, where the motor boy was declared dead on arrival, while the three guests survived and were receiving treatment. His family later retrieved the body for burial.
A resident who witnessed the incident shortly before it occurred said:
“He had just bought diesel at the filling station. I was shocked to hear he had died barely thirty minutes later.”
Efforts to obtain comments from the state Police Public Relations Officer were unsuccessful, as she reported receiving no briefing on the incident and did not respond to follow-up inquiries.
