An eight-month-old baby was miraculously rescued unharmed following a multiple-vehicle collision at Otedola, inward Tollgate, on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Thursday.
The crash also injured four pedestrians, according to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
Initial reports indicate that the accident involved four vehicles:
- a Hydra truck (APP 261 FA)
- an LT commercial bus (EPE 574 YC)
- a Ford vehicle (GG 283 XQ)
- an unregistered Mark flat-body truck
Investigations revealed that the pedestrians, including a woman carrying the infant on her back, were attempting to cross the expressway when the speeding LT bus struck them. The impact triggered secondary collisions involving the other vehicles.
LASTMA officers rescued the baby, who was found alive and unharmed, while the injured adults were stabilized on-site and transported to the Lagos State Accident & Emergency Centre for treatment.
Police from the Alausa Division were present to secure the scene and assist emergency responders in managing traffic. All affected vehicles were later cleared to restore normal traffic flow.
LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, extended sympathies to the victims and urged pedestrians to use pedestrian bridges, warning that crossing expressways in such conditions is avoidable and potentially fatal.
