FULL LIST: Ten African Countries with the Strongest Military Strength

In the wake of a recent attempted coup in Benin Republic, which was quickly foiled by the country’s armed forces, Nigeria, the African Union (AU), and ECOWAS condemned the act and emphasized the importance of regional security. The Nigerian Air Force confirmed that fighter jets were deployed to Benin under the ECOWAS Standby Forces (ESF) to support stability and coordinate with local authorities.

According to the 2025 Global Firepower Military Strength Index, which ranks 145 countries worldwide based on their military capabilities, Nigeria ranks third in Africa, behind only Egypt and Algeria.
