Gas Supply Increases by 11% to 5 Metric Tonnes Daily in November

The supply of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), commonly known as cooking gas, saw an 11% month-on-month (MoM) increase, reaching 5.0 metric tonnes per day in November 2025, up from 4.5 metric tonnes per day in October.

This increase was revealed in the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) Factsheet report for November 2025, which was released yesterday.

Despite the rise in supply, the report noted a significant drop in the nation’s gas consumption, which decreased by 34.5% to 3.992 metric tonnes per day in November, compared to 6.095 metric tonnes per day in October.

The decline in consumption was attributed to the surge in cooking gas prices between October and mid-November. Gas marketers reported a backlog of unsupplied products, mainly due to a dispute between the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) and Dangote, which resulted in the shutdown of gas facilities.

As a result of this supply disruption, Nigerians faced higher prices for cooking gas. During this period, the price of 1kg of gas ranged between N1,600 to N2,000 at gas plants, while retailers sold it for N2,500 to N3,500. The higher prices led to panic buying, with many consumers fearing further price hikes.

The NMDPRA’s report indicated that the average daily supply for the month of November stood at 4.9 metric tonnes, while the average daily consumption was recorded at 3.9 metric tonnes. Additionally, the report highlighted that the retail price for LPG during this period ranged between N950 and N1,500 per kilogram.
