Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has detailed the remarkable progress made in the state’s infrastructure renewal programme, noting that his administration has reduced the infrastructure deficit by more than half since taking office in 2022.
Speaking during a live broadcast marking the third anniversary of his administration on Wednesday in Osogbo, Governor Adeleke said the state’s infrastructure deficit had exceeded 80% at the start of his tenure.
“Today, we have reduced the infra deficit by over 50 per cent. Osun has become one of the fastest-growing states in road connectivity,” he stated.
The governor explained that infrastructure development remained central to economic growth, and his administration had accelerated road construction across both urban and rural areas. He reported that over 255 kilometres of internal roads have been completed, with an additional 160 kilometres under construction.
Key projects and their completion status include:
- Ilesa dualisation: 99%
- Ife flyover: 78%
- Ila dualisation: 25%
- Iwo dualisation: 20%
- Oke flyover: 99%
- Lameco flyover: 80%
- Ofatedo road: 29%
“Our focus is clear: linking communities to create greater economic impact,” the governor said, noting that road rehabilitation projects have improved connectivity for farmers, students, and healthcare access.
Under the Operation Light Up Osun initiative, completed roads now feature solar-powered streetlights, ensuring that major roads in the capital are fully illuminated.
Governor Adeleke also emphasized the administration’s commitment to local content, stating that public funds were being retained within the state to boost local businesses and workforce participation.
“Local content means prioritizing Osun people, businesses, and materials. We engage local contractors, engineers, artisans, and source construction materials from within Osun,” he said.
He added that direct-labour approaches on road and school projects have created jobs and enhanced skills development across communities.
“Ours is a people-centered development philosophy—development by the people and for the people,” the governor concluded.
