Hailey Bieber Speaks Out on Selena Gomez Feud Rumors: “I Didn’t Ask for That”

Hailey Bieber Addresses Selena Gomez Feud Rumors

Hailey Bieber is setting the record straight — again.
In her latest interview for WSJ. Magazine’s Innovators Issue, published on Oct. 14, the 28-year-old Rhode Beauty founder addressed ongoing speculation that she and Selena Gomez have bad blood stemming from their shared history with Justin Bieber.

“It’s always annoying being pitted against other people. I didn’t ask for that,” Hailey said in the feature, which dropped just hours before Rhode’s launch at Sephora, where Gomez’s Rare Beauty line is also sold.

“I Didn’t Ask for That”

Hailey, who married Justin Bieber in 2018 and welcomed their first child, Jack Blues, in August 2024, has been the subject of social media scrutiny for years due to fans drawing comparisons to Justin’s ex, Selena Gomez, 33.

“When people want to see you a certain way and they’ve made up a story about you in their minds, it’s not up to you to change that,” she added.

Despite both women repeatedly insisting there’s no feud — and even posing for a viral photo together at the Academy Museum Gala in 2022 — online fan wars have persisted for over a decade.

A Long History of Misunderstandings

Hailey and Selena both met Justin around 2009, when they were teenagers. Selena and the pop star dated on and off from 2011 to 2017, and during that time, Hailey publicly supported the couple, once tweeting: “I’m for sure 100% team #Jelena.”

By late 2014, dating rumors between Hailey and Justin began circulating. They went public in early 2016, when Justin posted a New Year’s Eve photo of them kissing in St. Barts.

Since marrying in 2018, Hailey has often spoken about the “vile” and “disgusting” fan narratives surrounding her relationship with Gomez. “It’s so disappointing that people still behave this way over a man,” she told Bloomberg’s The Circuit in 2023.

“These Bitches Are Going to Be Mad”

Hailey, who balances her life as a new mom and beauty entrepreneur, told Vogue in May that she’s accepted that the gossip might never stop.
“Well, I thought seven years in it would’ve already, and it hasn’t,” she said. “You would think after having a child, people would maybe move on, chill out a little bit, but no. So I guess these bitches are going to be mad.”

Despite the noise, Hailey continues to focus on her growing Rhode Beauty brand and her family life with Justin — steering clear of the fan-fueled rivalry she says she never wanted.

“I’ve hated it since the beginning,” she said. “There is no issue. I didn’t ask for that.”
