I Almost Quit Music After Mo’Hits Ended – Don Jazzy

Nigerian music producer and executive Don Jazzy has revealed that he nearly quit music and considered moving abroad after Mo’Hits, the record label he co-founded with D’banj, collapsed in 2012 due to disagreements between them.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Don Jazzy said it was the encouragement of friends that kept him going, eventually leading to the creation of Mavin Records.

“When Mo’Hits ended, I thought that was it. I almost packed up to move abroad. But friends encouraged me to stay and start again, and Mavin Records was born. Since then, I’ve learned not to let anything break me,” he stated.

Following Mo’Hits’ split, Don Jazzy founded Mavin Records, which welcomed former Mo’Hits artists such as Wande Coal, Dr SID, and D’Prince, alongside new talents including Tiwa Savage, Reekado Banks, Korode Bello, and Di’ja.

Today, Mavin Records boasts a roster featuring Rema, Ayra Starr, Ladipoe, Crayon, Magixx, Boy Spyce, Bayanni, Johnny Drille, and DJ Big N. In 2024, Universal Music Group made a majority investment in Mavin Global, further accelerating the label’s international expansion.
