Social media activist VeryDarkMan has shed fresh light on the controversy surrounding fellow activist Harrison Gwamnishu, stating that he personally pushed for Harrison’s arrest over an alleged diversion of ransom funds meant to secure the release of kidnapped victims in Edo State.
The allegations, which went viral earlier in the week, stunned many Nigerians who had long viewed Harrison as a frontline advocate for victims of injustice.
“I confirmed the allegations” — VDM
In a post shared on Instagram, VeryDarkMan explained that once the issue was brought to his attention, he verified the claims and advised those involved not to take the matter public until it had been properly handled. However, he said the incident was leaked because the man who shared the video felt compelled to defend himself after being accused by the victims’ family of colluding with Harrison.
Calls Harrison’s response a ‘pity show’
VDM criticised Harrison’s video response, describing it as manipulative and emotionally charged rather than factual. According to him, the video attempted to sway public sympathy instead of addressing what truly happened.
He further confirmed that Harrison has refunded the ₦5.4 million at the centre of the controversy and is presently in police custody in Benin.
VDM warned that if Harrison fails to reveal the full truth, he would not hesitate to expose every detail himself.
“This is not jealousy”
Addressing claims that he is motivated by rivalry or envy, VeryDarkMan insisted that he acted solely in the interest of truth.
“I genuinely believed he had changed. If he hadn’t dropped that manipulative video, I probably would’ve left the whole thing alone,” he said.
Fans divided
Reactions across social media remain mixed. While some users commend VeryDarkMan for speaking up, others question why such disputes are repeatedly aired in the public space.
