Renowned Nollywood actor Ibrahim Yekini, popularly known as Ibrahim Chatta, has partnered with WEBEK Studios to bring the highly anticipated film Abeni to life. The collaboration marks a milestone for WEBEK Studios, which recently announced the completion of its first feature-length production.
Directed by Esse Akwawa, CEO of WEBEK Studios, with Samuel Olasehinde serving as co-director and co-writer, Abeni promises a compelling mix of visionary storytelling, cultural depth, and emotional resonance.
Filmed at the Africhatta Film Village in Oyo State, known for its dedication to authentic Yoruba representation, the film draws on a true yet undocumented historical narrative passed down through generations.
Abeni tells the story of a young woman who defies societal expectations to pursue a craft traditionally reserved for men: the sacred art of forging. Her bravery, determination, and resilience form the emotional heart of the film, making it both a cinematic triumph and a cultural preservation effort.
Co-Executive Producers Seun Dania and Ibrahim Chatta contributed significantly to the production, enhancing both its authenticity and scale.
Reflecting on the project, Ibrahim Chatta said:
“Being involved in Abeni allowed me to connect deeply with a story that mirrors the strength of our ancestors. The film sheds light on a remarkable young woman whose love for forging pushed her beyond the boundaries of her time. Working with WEBEK Studios reaffirmed my belief in the power of African storytelling and the importance of preserving our truth.”
Rooted in Yoruba culture and blending mythic elements with raw emotion, Abeni follows a determined girl who challenges tradition, defies gender norms, and pursues her passion with courage and pride, offering audiences a moving tale of destiny, resilience, and cultural heritage.
