Nigerian actor Ibrahim Chatta is making headlines after reports of his earnings surfaced online, placing him at the top of Nollywood’s pay scale.
Veteran actor Mustapha Bakare Otolo revealed the details in a trending interview, explaining the widening pay gap between top actors and other industry veterans.
According to Otolo, while many veteran actors earn around N250,000 per movie, Chatta commands N5 million per appearance. “If Ibrahim Chatta appears on a movie set, he has been paid N5 million. That’s the amount he currently charges. He is the highest-paid actor at present,” Otolo stated.
He added that Chatta could potentially take on up to 20 projects in a month, highlighting the disparity with veteran actors who might appear in just one or two films and earn between N250,000 and N300,000. Otolo cited his recent experience working with Chatta on his film ‘Jigi’ in Ogbomoso as an example.
The veteran actor emphasized that this pay gap is one of the reasons it is challenging for older actors to produce cinema films independently.
