“Imagine Telling a Man in His 40s How to Live” – Jamiu Azeez Responds to Backlash Over Alleged Religious Conversion

Nollywood actor and filmmaker Jamiu Azeez has addressed criticism surrounding his alleged conversion from Islam to Christianity, following a viral video of him attending a church service.

The controversy began after Azeez shared footage of himself in a white garment at a church crossover service, prompting some members of the Muslim community to question his faith and even urge him to change his name.

Responding on social media on January 4, 2026, Azeez said:
“It’s only in Nigeria people are so bothered about another person’s life. Imagine telling a man in his 40s how to live his life… I can choose to practise any religion, and that should not be anyone’s problem. I never even came out to say I have converted.”

He emphasized personal freedom and joked about the criticisms, adding: “No worry, I go wear babalawo cloth tomorrow.”
