IPOB Lawyer Ejiofor Urges Senate to Reject Reno Omokri’s Ambassadorial Nomination Over Past Conduct

Human rights lawyer and counsel for the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor, has called on the Nigerian Senate to reject Reno Omokri’s nomination as an Ambassador-Designate, warning that confirming him would be a “historical error-in-progress” and a threat to Nigeria’s diplomatic credibility.

In a statement on Monday, Ejiofor described Omokri’s nomination as “profoundly unwise,” citing his past social media conduct and what he called “ethnic bigotry,” particularly against the Igbo people. He alleged that Omokri’s online commentaries repeatedly maligned Igbos, portraying them as criminals and invaders, and amplified divisive narratives such as calls for Igbos to leave Lagos.

Ejiofor criticized Omokri’s digital record of personal attacks on national leaders and argued that such behavior undermines his suitability to represent Nigeria abroad. He urged the Senate to question Omokri on how he would reconcile his past activism and anti-government protests with the responsibilities of an ambassador.

While suggesting Omokri could serve in a spokesperson role, Ejiofor warned that appointing him to a diplomatic post could risk Nigeria’s image and urged senators, especially of Igbo origin, to oppose the nomination.
