Islamic Scholar Urges Tinubu to Address Security Challenges to Restore Public Confidence

An Ibadan-based Islamic scholar, Mallam Ali Temitope Abdulssalam, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the federal government to thoroughly investigate and tackle insurgency, banditry, kidnappings, ritual killings, and other criminal activities across Nigeria. He emphasized that addressing these issues decisively is crucial to restoring public confidence in the government.

Abdulssalam made the remarks during the fifth graduation ceremony of the Ali Institute for Qur’an Memorisation in Ibadan. He highlighted the role of Qur’an and Islamic knowledge centres in nurturing future leaders who are God-fearing, patriotic, and morally upright, and free from tribalism, terrorism, and social vices. He urged governments at all levels to support such centres and create an enabling environment for the teaching of virtues and morals alongside formal education.

He stated:

“On security, I equally call on the government to unravel what seems to have become a mystery in the fight against insurgency, banditry, and similar tendencies, such as kidnappings and killings for rituals, and to tackle the problems headlong. We believe this will restore confidence in the government and make Nigeria great again.”

Attendees at the ceremony included Professor Hamdalat Olaniyan, Alhaji Kola Karim, Architect Hassan Giwa, and former Labour Party gubernatorial candidate Taofeek Akinwale, among others.
