Israel Violates Gaza Ceasefire Nearly 500 Times in 44 Days, Hundreds Killed

The Gaza Government Media Office has reported that Israel has violated the United States-brokered Gaza ceasefire at least 497 times in just 44 days, killing hundreds of Palestinians and leaving the enclave in a state of severe humanitarian crisis. The ceasefire, which took effect on October 10, 2025, was intended to halt hostilities, but repeated violations have undermined its effectiveness.

Civilian Casualties

Since the ceasefire, 342 civilians have been killed, including children, women, and the elderly, with many more wounded. On Saturday alone, the Gaza office said 27 violations resulted in 24 deaths and 87 injuries.

“We condemn in the strongest terms the continued serious and systematic violations of the ceasefire agreement by the Israeli occupation authorities,” the office said in a statement.
“These violations constitute a flagrant breach of international humanitarian law and the humanitarian protocol attached to the agreement.”

The Gaza authorities hold Israel fully responsible for the resulting humanitarian and security repercussions, including the severe restriction of aid and medical supplies mandated by the truce.

Recent Air Strikes

Israel’s military conducted a wave of air strikes across Gaza on Saturday, killing at least 24 Palestinians, including children, as part of the latest violation. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office stated the attacks were in retaliation after a Hamas fighter allegedly attacked Israeli soldiers inside Gaza. Israel claimed it had “eliminated five senior Hamas fighters” in response.

Hamas, however, has demanded proof of the claimed attack and accused Israel of using fabricated pretexts to evade the ceasefire agreement. Senior Hamas official Izzat al-Risheq urged international mediators and the US administration to pressure Israel to adhere to the Gaza truce, describing the violations as part of a broader campaign of aggression.

Ceasefire “In Name Only”

Al Jazeera correspondent Tareq Abu Azzoum in Gaza City described the truce as “a ceasefire in name,” noting that Israeli forces continue to carry out air strikes while Palestinian families remain in constant fear. According to local authorities, the Israeli military has repositioned forces deeper into Gaza, beyond the agreed yellow line boundary, controlling more than half of the coastal territory.

The Gaza Forensic Evidence Department has highlighted challenges in identifying bodies returned by Israel, many of which show signs of torture and execution. Out of 330 bodies returned, only 90 have been positively identified, underscoring the need for forensic equipment and international support.

Humanitarian and Security Concerns

The ongoing violations have left Gaza’s population with a shattered sense of safety, disrupted the delivery of critical humanitarian aid, and created a complex security environment in the territory. Local authorities warn that without stricter enforcement of the truce, the situation may deteriorate further, complicating efforts to provide medical and humanitarian assistance to affected civilians.
