Israeli Forces Kill, Wound Palestinians as Netanyahu Issues Hamas Threat Amid Ceasefire Breaches

Gaza City, Gaza StripIsraeli forces killed at least one Palestinian and wounded six others, including a child, during multiple attacks across Gaza on Wednesday, escalating tensions amid ongoing ceasefire violations. The incidents follow a warning from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu against Hamas.

Fatal Shooting in Jabalia

A Palestinian man, Ayoub Abdel Ayesh Nasr, was killed in northern Gaza’s Jabalia area when Israeli forces opened fire on civilians. Two others were wounded in the same attack.

Medical sources also reported three additional injuries east of Khan Younis, and a child was shot in Maghazi refugee camp in central Gaza.

According to Gaza’s Ministry of Health, more than 400 Palestinians have been killed in the enclave since the ceasefire came into effect in October.

The Gaza Government Media Office condemned the attacks, saying Israel committed “serious and systematic violations” of the truce, with 875 reported breaches since the ceasefire started.

Rafah Explosion

In a separate incident in southern Gaza’s Rafah, an explosive device detonated, injuring one Israeli soldier. Netanyahu vowed retaliation, though Hamas denied responsibility, asserting the device was leftover from previous Israeli military operations.

Hamas highlighted that the explosion occurred in an area under full Israeli control and stressed its commitment to the October 10 ceasefire.

Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza

The repeated ceasefire breaches worsen Gaza’s humanitarian emergency, with the healthcare system on the brink of collapse due to a lack of medicine, medical supplies, and essential aid.

A 20-point peace plan proposed by US President Donald Trump in September envisions a phased truce, including prisoner releases, partial Israeli withdrawal, and eventual disarmament of Hamas. However, progress has stalled.

Hamas maintains it will disarm only after a Palestinian state is established, a step Israel has repeatedly rejected. The blockade and limited aid access further complicate efforts to restore stability in the enclave.

Diplomatic Efforts

Netanyahu’s office confirmed that an Israeli delegation met mediators in Cairo to discuss returning the remains of the last Israeli captive, police officer Ran Gvili, with officials from the military, Shin Bet, and Mossad present.

Meanwhile, a Hamas delegation led by chief negotiator Khalil al-Hayya met Turkey’s foreign minister in Ankara, warning that Israeli ceasefire violations are blocking progress toward the next phase of the agreement. They also noted that 60 percent of aid trucks entering Gaza carried commercial goods, not humanitarian aid.

Since the outbreak of Israel’s military campaign on Gaza in October 2023, more than 71,000 Palestinians have been killed and 171,000 wounded, highlighting the persistent human toll amid the ongoing conflict.
