Anthony Joshua and Jake Paul officially weighed in Thursday ahead of their highly anticipated boxing showdown at the Kaseya Center in Miami, setting the stage for one of the biggest crossover fights in recent years. The weigh-in showcased a striking size advantage for the former heavyweight world champion, highlighting the physical gap between the two fighters.
Weigh-In Results
Under the fight rules limiting the bout to 245 pounds (111kg), Joshua tipped the scales at 243.4 pounds (110kg). This marks one of the lightest weights he has competed at since his first heavyweight title fight against Oleksandr Usyk in September 2021, when he weighed 240 pounds (109kg). The 1.98m (6 feet 6 inches) British boxer, known for his power and technical skill, will be entering the ring against a significantly smaller opponent.
Jake Paul, the social media sensation turned professional boxer, weighed in at 216 pounds (98kg) – more than 12 kilograms (over two stones) lighter than Joshua. The 1.85m (6 feet 1 inch) American was above his usual cruiserweight limit of 91kg (200 pounds) for only the second time in his professional career, signaling his willingness to step up against a formidable heavyweight opponent.
Tensions and Trash Talk
Paul, who took to the stage first, immediately energized the crowd, claiming Joshua was nervous and predicting an upset. “I smell fear. I see something in his eyes, I truly do,” Paul said. “The pressure is on him. I’m fighting free. I’ve already won. This is a lose-lose situation for him. I’ve got him right where I want him.”
Joshua maintained composure during the weigh-in, only reacting when Paul pushed his fist toward him. “Don’t touch me,” Joshua exclaimed during the promotional stare-off. The 2012 Olympic champion remained confident, asserting that his experience and skill would outclass the younger, less experienced Paul. “I’ll just outclass this kid. I’m a serious fighter. That’s the difference. I’m a serious, serious fighter,” Joshua said.
Fight Details
The fight is scheduled for Friday at 10:30pm local time (03:30 GMT Saturday) and will be contested over eight rounds with 10-ounce gloves. This marks Joshua’s first fight since his knockout defeat to Daniel Dubois in September 2024.
Co-Main Event: Baumgardner vs. Beaudoin
In the co-main event, unified junior lightweight champion Alycia Baumgardner weighed in at 129.2 pounds (58.6kg), while challenger Leila Beaudoin came in at 130 pounds (58.9kg). Baumgardner, unbeaten since 2018, enters the fight as the heavy favorite to retain her titles. The weigh-in featured a tense face-off between the two fighters, further building excitement for the bout.
