The members of Jane’s Addiction have reached a settlement, officially dismissing the legal battles between Perry Farrell, Dave Navarro, Eric Avery, and Stephen Perkins. The Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles, dismissed the case on Monday, December 22, 2025, following a high-profile dispute that began after a 2024 concert incident in Boston.
The Boston Incident and Lawsuit
The legal conflict stems from a September 2024 mid-show altercation during a Jane’s Addiction performance in Boston. Navarro, Avery, and Perkins filed a $10 million lawsuit in July 2025, accusing Farrell of assault and battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligence, breach of fiduciary duty, breach of contract, and indemnity and contribution.
The band alleged that Farrell’s behavior during the show was a “brutal and unprovoked” attack, which ultimately led to the cancellation of their highly anticipated reunion tour. The tour had sold over 100,000 tickets across multiple cities before it was canceled due to the incident.
Farrell’s Response and Apology
In September 2025, Farrell, 66, filed a formal response denying all allegations in the lawsuit. He requested the case be dismissed and sought coverage of his legal fees by Navarro.
However, on December 17, 2025, Farrell issued a public apology on Instagram, expressing regret for his actions during the Boston show:
“I’ve reflected on it and know I didn’t handle myself the way I should have. I apologize to our patrons and my bandmates for losing my temper and for disrupting the show.”
The apology emphasized Farrell’s commitment to delivering honest and positive performances, acknowledging that the Boston concert fell short of that goal.
Band Announces Split
The apology coincided with Jane’s Addiction announcing that the band would split permanently. In a joint statement, the group expressed regret over “inaccurate statements about Perry’s mental health” and for unilaterally canceling the tour after the Boston incident.
The band added:
“We now look forward to the future as we embark on our separate musical and creative endeavors. Jane’s Addiction will forever live in our hearts. We are proud of the music we created together.”
This decision marks the official end of Jane’s Addiction, one of the most influential alternative rock bands of the late 20th century.
Legal Settlement
Following Farrell’s apology and the band’s split announcement, the members reached a mutual settlement, and the lawsuit was officially dismissed by the court. This resolution concludes the months-long legal dispute, allowing all parties to move forward with their individual careers and musical projects.
Legacy of Jane’s Addiction
Formed in Los Angeles in 1985, Jane’s Addiction has had a major influence on the alternative rock scene, blending elements of punk, metal, and psychedelic rock. Known for hits like “Jane Says” and “Been Caught Stealing”, the band has been celebrated for its creativity, live performances, and cultural impact.
While the legal battles and personal conflicts have marked the band’s final chapter, their musical legacy continues to resonate with fans worldwide.
